THE CHALLENGE: AUDIT TRAIL INACCURACIES, LOW WORKFORCE PRODUCTIVITY AND WORKFORCE MANAGEMENT INEFFICIENCIES
Facilities management and security operations share a common challenge — both require a highly accurate audit trail for proof of compliance. But when workers use a clipboard and paper forms to document checkpoint visits, numerous potential issues arise:
• Data accuracy is at stake.
A simple data error can threaten the security of a building or the safety of those who work inside the building — and paper-based processes invite inaccuracies. Errors can occur when information is handwritten, transcribed or keyed into the computer. For example, a faulty fire alarm or an unlocked side door may go undetected. These inaccuracies can impact building security, as well as the safety of the workers in the building.
• Management is difficult.
There is no cost-effective means to validate that all stops in all rounds were actually made, and all required tasks executed.
• Productivity is reduced and labor costs are increased.
Workers must spend time capturing information on paper during rounds, and then entering that information into the computer upon completion of rounds — time that could be spent more productively. And the resulting low workforce utilization creates the need for a larger-thannecessary workforce. While a mobile device could resolve these issues by automating the creation of detailed audit trails, the cost of mobile devices might have been prohibitive — until now
THE SOLUTION: AUTOMATED COLLECTION OF A VALIDATED REAL-TIME AUDIT TRAIL WITH THE MC45
The Zebra MC45 mobile computer brings a new level of affordability to facilities management and security guard operations, offering the right mix of enterpriseclass features and enterprise-class rugged design in a compact device that fits in your budget. Now, you can cost-effectively replace your clipboards with an MC45, providing your workers with the tools they need to automate the capture of a real-time highly accurate audit trail. And the MC45’s class-leading ergonomics provide your workers with real ease of use. Our industrial engineers paid attention to every aspect of this pocketable device to make it easy-to-hold and easy-to-use, with a “right-sized” easy-to-read display. For guards and facilities managers making rounds in one or multiple facilities during a shift, the MC45 will not only automate the capture of an audit trail, but it will also provide richer information for indisputable validation of audit trail information
BAR CODE SCANNING
Automatically validate that workers are about to check the right asset. A quick scan of a bar code placed on exit doors, fire extinguishers and more can capture detailed information about the checkpoint or asset, including the time of the scan. Since printed bar code labels are susceptible to damage, we integrated our advanced 1D Adaptive Scanning laser technology to ensure successful capture of poorly printed, scratched and dirty bar codes on the first try. And in the event workers need to capture 2D bar codes, the integrated camera can capture any bar code — 1D and 2D.
Automatically capture irrefutable proof of location. Integrated GPS can automatically capture a geostamp when a bar code is scanned, providing proof of location and the time that location was visited. And since workers will often be in areas that challenge typical GPS technology, we integrated advanced GPS technology into the MC45 to provide connectivity inside buildings and in challenging spots, such as urban canyons or areas where foliage is dense.
INTEGRATED COLOR CAMERA
Automatically capture proof of condition/maintenance. The integrated 3.2 MP color camera with user-controllable flash allows workers to take photos and videos in just about any lighting condition to capture proof of condition and proof that maintenance was performed for everything from an entry gate to a heating system. In addition, should workers spot an asset that needs immediate repair, a photo can provide the information managers need to quickly dispatch the right worker with the right tools to address the issue
WI-FI AND CELLULAR WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY
Reliable connectivity inside and outside. Whether your workers are inside, outside or traveling to a facility, an 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi and 3.5G GSM HSDPA cellular connection will keep workers connected to your business data, supervisors and co-workers.
True field durability. Since these workers spend their day inside buildings and outside exposed to the elements, we designed the MC45 to handle the unavoidable drops, bumps, spills, vibration and thermal shock that occurs when traveling between a climate controlled area, such as car, to the outdoors.
Plenty of power for a full shift. With the most battery power in its class, the MC45 provides power throughout the longest shifts — even when demanding power-hungry applications are in use. The result? No need to purchase a large battery pool, and no need for workers to carry extra batteries or waste time hunting for a fresh battery.
